I think the only case that confirms this thesis remains that of Korea . Until 1946 the two Koreas were similar profile in terms of ethnic, cultural , economic and social . Then a series of geopolitical motives , the southern part of the country embraced capitalism and communism country's north . For over thirty years the two countries were under dictatorship but with substantially different economic results . The economic situation of these countries was so different that South Korea in 1980 failed to become a democratic country with a per capita salary of 1,589 dollars . Democracy as a condition for development
Is diametrically opposed to the thesis of those who support the idea that democracy is the first step to develop the country economically later . The importance of economic power to set limits and accepted by the government of a country finds expression in authors like Buchanan North Tulock 1962 and 1990. This idea is supported and the more contemporary authors as Hall and Jones in 1999 , and most recently by Daron Acemoglu . These authors have published a series of inquiries , based on empirical evidence , which defend the idea that democratic institutions generate development .
The first idea upon which this research is what democracy looks like a mechanism that creates and distributes information . This means to allow citizens to express their opinions constantly about the effectiveness of policies and interventions that governments make . This would be quite favorable and for politicians who would use as a feed -back .
